Vale Andy Anderson of Maroochydore

A QLD legend farewelled. Australia and Queensland lost one of its longest sober members in February with the peaceful passing of 91 year old Andy Anderson of Maroochydore. A longtime member of the Buderim Sunday afternoon meeting, Andy was just two weeks shy of 62 years of sobriety when he passed away. A former journalist and World War Two veteran, Andy provided many years of service to AA, including starting the first AA group in Cootamundra NSW, performing service inside prisons and as a member of several AA groups. Andy’s life was celebrated at a large funeral in Buderim, attracting many AA, RSL and members of the community. When sharing at meetings, Andy often recalled after many decades of sobriety: “I’m one drink away from being a drunk.” May God bless you Andy. You inspired so many recoveries over six decades.
